PassExcessive Noise Prohibited
Where: On any public road, typically near hospitals, clinics, schools, churches, and homes for the aged or other sensitive areas where excessive noise could disturb occupants or disrupt activities. The sign is usually placed at the entrance to the designated quiet zone.
Purpose: To prohibit unnecessary noise from vehicles, particularly from horns or hooters, to maintain a peaceful environment. This helps protect the well-being of patients, elderly residents, students, or anyone in a noise-sensitive area.
Action Required by Driver: Do not use your vehicle's horn or hooter in the area indicated by the sign. If your vehicle produces a high noise level (e.g., a loud exhaust), you must not proceed past the sign until it is safe to do so or until the vehicle meets noise restrictions.
- Stay silent — after passing the sign, do not sound your horn for the next 100 metres, unless required to avoid an accident.
- Drive respectfully — maintain a quiet, respectful environment throughout the designated zone.
